Veteran LA County Employee Facing Major Prison Time in Alabama

A veteran Los Angeles County employee is facing a long stint in federal prison after pleading guilty to attempting to have sex with two minor children and possession of child pornography. Authorities in Alabama set up an elaborate sting operation whereby Mark Rainwater contacted people posing as the parents of two minor children for the purpose of setting up a sexual liason with the two kids. When Rainwater flew out to Alabama he was in for quite a shock when authorities greated him and his suitcase full of sex toys with a pair of matching hardened steel bracelets.

Rainwater, who worked 14 years in the information technology department of Los Angeles County was charged in multiple felony counts involving sex offenses under federal law. Because of the federal sentencing guidelines, Rainwater appears to be facing afederal mandatory minimum sentence of ten years in prison. Prosecutors are recommending an even harsher sentence. Generally in federal cases, before sentencing the probation department will prepare a detailed report about the case, the defendant and make a recommendation for sentencing based upon the federal guidelines and the facts specific to this case.

Rainwater who is now 46 years old and has two children, will likely be serving a minimum of 8.5 years of actual time in federal in prison for his crimes. He will also be required to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life.
