The Los Angeles Lakers’ Devin Ebanks was arrested yesterday for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol in Hollywood, California. Officers with the California Highway Patrol arrested him shortly before 3:00 a.m. and booked him for the crime. Ebanks posted bail and was released with a date to appear in court in early December.
According to ESPN, the Lakers organization was aware of the arrest and made no public comment.
If convicted of DUI, Ebanks faces probation, a mandatory alcohol school, a fine of around $2,000, the loss of his driving privilege and up to 6 months in jail. The conviction will also require the installation of an ignition interlock device in his car for 5 months. The ignition interlock device or IID is a device that requires the user to blow into the machine and be free of breath alcohol in order to start and continue to operate the vehicle.
