Holiday Weekends Mean Increased Police Patrols and DUI Arrests
It is going to be a beautiful weekend in Southern California. Police patrols, especially by the California Highway Patrol are going to be increased. Police will be on the beach, on bicycles, on motorcycles with radar guns hiding behind cars, trees, brick walls and anything else that will conceal them from view. DUI arrests will skyrocket this weekend. I’ve written a couple blogs like this one before, but only because it is so important.
Don’t give the pricks the satisfaction of taking you to jail.
Here are ten ways to help avoid getting arrested for DUI:
- Drink at home.
- Take an Uber or Lyft.
- Use a designated driver.
- Make sure there are no traffic violations on your car. Check your lights, registration, window tinting, cracked windshield, anything hanging from your rearview mirror.
- Make sure you stay well hydrated – with water or other non-alcoholic beverages.
- If you are going to be drinking, eat real food.
- Be conscious and stay conscious of the amount you drink, including, volume and ABV.
- Pace yourself. Try eight ounces of water between each drink.
- Consider some of the non-alcoholic or lower alcohol options.
- And yes, not drinking is a real option. Maybe it’s your weekend to be the D.D.?
If you are drinking and you are one of the unfortunate few who gets caught, be smart. Never lie to the cops. You have the absolute, constitutional right to remain silent, but there is no right to lie. Exercise your right to remain silent. Answer only the required questions regarding personal, identifying information. Provide your license, registration and insurance to the cops.
You may be required to take a chemical test. If so, I always recommend refusing the field breath test and taking a blood test later. It gives your body more time to burn off the alcohol, it gives the cops less information to go on and it gives us some scientific means for attack in court and with the DMV.
Have a safe holiday weekend.

If you or someone close to you has been arrested in LA or Ventura County and is facing criminal charges including DUI, call a lawyer who has spent over two decades getting good results for his clients in these two places. Please do not call the lawyer who sends you a letter in the mail or the one who pays the most to advertise on Google. The lawyers with the best websites are the lawyers who spend the most money on marketing, not the best lawyers for your case.
