Alcohol and Drug Dependency Resources NCADD

Alcohol and Drug Dependency Resources

To me the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependency (NCADD) has been nothing more than the liaison between the court and the court ordered alcohol education program after my clients have been convicted of DUI and ordered into a program. After the case settlement, we get the paperwork from the clerk, head over to the NCADD office, pay them a fee and get our referral to an alcohol school.

We then call the school directly and make an appointment to go in and sign up. Some weeks or months later, after we finish the program, NCADD gets proof of completion and submits it to court to show that we finished our program. They also get proof of enrollment and periodic progress to the court. Of course, they charge a fee for this service.

Silly me, I never knew they actually helped people, until now. Based out of New York, the NCADD is about seventy years old and has around 100 office locations. They have offered recovery and education services for millions of people struggling with addiction. Founded over half a decade ago by Marty Mann, the program was designed to provide education to those in need of recovery services and to increase awareness of the need for recovery service across the country.

Marty apparently suffered from substance abuse problems and sought help with an organization called Alcoholics Anonymous. (See www.aa.org) Marty was sponsored by AA's co-founder Bill Wilson and so began her lifelong quest of helping all people who suffer from drug and alcohol addiction. NCADD offers resources to addicts, family and friends of addicts, and resources for both drug and alcohol dependency.

I have often said that the best way to avoid a DUI conviction by avoiding a DUI arrest to begin with. NCADD offers great resources right on their website: www.ncadd.org

Please visit their site before you need to visit mine.

In the mean time, I really liked this:

"Recovery from alcohol and drug problems is a process of change through which an individual achieves abstinence and improved health, wellness and quality of life."

If you think you may have a problem with alcohol, be honest with yourself and take their alcohol abuse self-test:

www.ncadd.org/learn-about-alcohol/alcohol-abuse-self-test

All this information and more is available on the NCADD site.
